About Mosaicus

Mosaicus turns any picture into a real Commodore 64 picture, with the best pixels each C64 format allows, and then lets you touch it up by hand, or paint one from scratch.

What it is

Mosaicus is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux. Its core is written in Rust, fast enough that the picture converts again as you move a slider. There is a command-line tool too.

It makes the standard C64 bitmap formats (hires, multicolor, and the FLI formats), bitmaps with sprites, charset logos and sprite sheets, the C64 Ultimate's turbo formats and a SuperCPU format (Formats). It opens and writes the files of classic C64 paint programs, writes data and assembly for your own programs, and runs pictures in the VICE emulator or on a C64 Ultimate or Ultimate 64 (Exporting and running).

No Commodore ROM is included: the built-in fonts are Mosaicus' own. See Credits.
