Getting started
Mosaicus turns a picture into a real Commodore 64 picture, then lets you fix it by hand. These pages take you through a first picture and the parts of the app you use every time.
- Your first pictureOpen a picture, choose a format, frame and adjust it, check it, save it and see it on a C64.
- The windowThe menu bar, options bar, toolbar, canvas, side panels and status bar, and what each part does.
- Painting from blankFile ▸ New picture… and painting a picture pixel by pixel.
- Projects and saving.mosaicus projects, recent files, recovery after a crash, and a source picture that moved.
- Undo and historyOne history for settings and pixels, hand edits over the conversion, Freeze and Clear.
Two ways to work
- Convert a picture. Open a photo, a painting or pixel art. Mosaicus chooses the best C64 pixels for the format you pick, and does it again each time you change a setting. Anything you paint by hand stays on top of the conversion. Start with Your first picture.
- Paint from blank. Pick a format and paint, as in a C64 paint program, with the format's color limits kept for you. See Painting from blank.
Either way, you end with a file for a C64 paint program, data for your own program, a PNG, or a program that shows the picture on a real C64 or in the VICE emulator. See Exporting and running.
TipPress F1 in the app for every keyboard shortcut, or see Keyboard shortcuts.
