Views and checks
Mosaicus can show the same picture in several ways: as the C64 pixels you paint on, beside the picture it came from, on a model of an old TV, or in gray to judge its contrast. None of these change the picture itself.
Everything here is in the View menu. The four main views also sit as tabs at the right end of the options bar (Result, Source, Compare, CRT), next to the zoom box.
- The viewsResult, Source and frame, Compare with source, and CRT; zoom, Fit and the pixel aspect.
- OverlaysThe pixel grid, the format guides and rulers, turning sprites off, and your hand edits marked.
- ChecksBrightness only and the 9 luma levels, stray pixels, jaggies, and tracing the source.
- Sketch layerConstruction lines in any color, saved with the project and never exported.
- PreviewThe picture at its real size while you zoom in: sharp, on a modern screen, or on a CRT TV.
- The CRT modelEvery setting of the TV model: PAL or NTSC, the cable, the decoder, the mask, the beam and the glow.
What views don't change
Views, overlays and checks only change what you see. They never change the pixels, and most of them aren't saved with the project:
- The view you're in, the zoom, the overlays and the checks belong to the window, not to the picture. They aren't undone by Undo.
- The CRT settings, the preview's settings, the sketch's color and opacity, and how the tracing looks are remembered on your computer for every picture.
- Two things are part of the picture: the pixel aspect (it decides how the source is framed too, so changing it is a step in the history) and the sketch layer (saved in the project).
TipThe keys for the views work even while you're typing in a field: Alt+1 to Alt+4 switch views, F3 opens the preview, and Ctrl+\ hides the side panels.
